The Voluntary Action Media Unit (VAMU) was set up with the aim of researching and improving the relationship between charities and the media.
The unit was launched in January 2005 and the project ended in March 2008. VAMU was awarded funding for three years by the Big Lottery Fund.
VAMU created and launched askCHARITY.org.uk, the free media contacts service designed to help charities and journalists work together. It is now run by CharityComms.
VAMU also set up Media Connections, the scheme which gave charity press officers the opportunity to work inside media organisations. The scheme is now run by the Media Trust.
